Learning Basic Korean Communication through K-dramas


This course is a basic Korean language course aimed at beginner-level Korean language learners. The content focuses on scenes from K-dramas. The four skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing are taught in an integrated manner, but the focus is on speaking, so the course is structured to teach not only understanding Korean, but its actual use as well.

Korean Cultural Genes through Language


The language we are using needs to be studied in detail from the perspective of human cultural genes. It is unfortunate, however, that such research is not being conducted in depth. If human genes are transmitted through our bodies, the cultural genes are transmitted through language. Therefore, just like human DNA is being studied, we have to analyze and study the human language. So, what cultural genes can be found in the Korean language. Of course, these are not only Korean genes like the human ones. The cultures have changed constantly influencing each other. And matured. They are changing even now. Through examining the cultural genes of Koreans in Korean language, we will learn to understand Korean language and Korean’s attitudes, values, and feelings toward life. And we will learn to draw a cultural genetic map of Koreans through Korean language.

Korean Pop Culture History Through Keyword


The purpose of this lecture is to explore the characteristics of Korean culture and understand cultural genes of Koreans by looking at the culture inherent in Korean language. To this end, this lecture examines the linguistic culture including Koreans’ view of languages, texts, idioms, body languages and also examines Koreans’ view of humans, nature, families, and the necessities of life. It also studies areas such as basic language knowledge, language skills, culture, and etc. based on “International Standard Curriculum of the Korean Language.” Finally, the lecture helps students to improve inter-cultural communication skills by providing opportunities to compare Korean and their own cultures.

K-Entertainment and Neologisms


This course explores modern Korean culture and society by focusing on newly coined words and phrases. Neologisms quickly reflect recent trends and shifts in society and culture. By examining "neologisms," we gain insight into the latest developments in Korean society and culture. The course covers the concept of neologisms, their various categories, and provides examples. It also looks into how these new words and phrases emerge, become adopted, and are used in specific contexts. Real-world examples of neologisms from K-Entertainment programs illustrate the practical use of these language trends within their authentic contexts.

K-Movies and Glocalism


This course focuses on understanding K-movies through auteurism and at the same time examines the process of globalization of Korean movie. After examining the characteristics and contemporaneity of movies, which have caught the attention of global film market since the 2000s, we will try to understand the reasons for Korean movies gaining attention from the world and explore subsequent trends.

Classical Literature With History


In this course we explore literary works that provide effective understanding of the keywords set up to explain Korea’s past history, which are ideas and philosophy, social structure and systems, and events such as war. Through this we learn to understand how literature captures Korea’s past history.

Admission Requirements Before You Apply


  • · Only undergraduate/graduate students enrolled in accredited higher education institutions located overseas are eligible to participate and those who have submitted a valid English version of their Certificate of Enrollment will be considered. Students will be notified of their acceptance or rejection prior to the commencement of the program.

  • · The Global Virtual School consists of KHU credit-bearing courses. However, your home institution may or may not accept them as credits towards your degree. Consult with your home institution about credit questions.
